Health Insurance Policies and Massage

At Seattle Massage Therapy we are preferred providers for most health insurance policies in Washington. If you have been in a car accident, you will not utilize your health insurance policies, instead your massage will be covered by your auto accident insurance.

The steps to take to receive therapeutic massage using your health insurance:

  • Call your health insurance company and ask if you have massage therapy as a benefit

  • Talk to one of these Primary Care Physicians to get a prescription for massage; Chiropractor, Family Physician, Orthopedic Surgeon, Osteopath, Dentist

  • Call Valeo, set up an appointment
If you have any difficulty understanding your insurance, or you are unclear if you have coverage, then simply call Tina, our insurance expert at Seattle Massage Therapy, and she can help you figure out what to do next.

Why Don't You Have Massage Therapy Coverage?

In Washington health insurance can be very confusing. For instance, Valeo is a preferred provider for Premera. However, if you work for Microsoft, and you have Premera, you won't have therapeutic massage as a benefit because your employer was not educated on the benefits of therapeutic massage and did not select this benefit for you.

In addition, if you work in Washington, but your company is based in another state, or your company insures you outside of Washington, you will not have therapeutic massage therapy coverage, even though Valeo is a preferred provider for your insurance plan.

Thus, even though your doctor and you together decide that therapeutic massage will help you heal faster than medication, you may not be able to utilize your health insurance for this benefit.

What To Do If You Don't Have Coverage?

First, you can utilize your Health Savings Account. We are very happy to help you prepare invoices, or any other paperwork you may need for your Health Savings Accounts. We also accept visa/mc/amex.
